Local Teacher, third grade: “Escuela Telesecundaria "José Luis Cortés Mugátegui”.

I hold a Master of Science in Education. I work as a secondary school teacher in the “Telesecundaria” system, which serves the educational needs of rural and semi-rural populations, such as Mahahual, the seaside town where I work.

My job grants me the opportunity to guide students on their journey of discovering the world. In a rapidly evolving society, students need to learn how to face the challenges they will encounter as adults—the challenges we face as a society, the challenges we face as the human race, and the responsibility we bear as the self-proclaimed dominant species of Earth. As a secondary school teacher, I am responsible for giving them the tools they need to fully understand the challenges that await them.

One of my dreams is to transform education: to make collaboration and cooperation the foundation of human learning from an early age; to build a society where wealth serves need and where people lend each other a hand; to shape a future where selfishness and pessimism are replaced by hope and optimism in what it means to be human.

My primary interest as an educator is to create tools that help students approach and understand science as a fundamental instrument that will allow them to build a stronger future for their communities, their families, and themselves.
