Mariana Matera Veras
Air Quality and Health Impact Analysis, Research Co-Lead, University of São Paulo.
Environmental scientist specializing in the health impacts of air pollution, currently focused on developing new approaches for assessing human exposure to particulate air pollution. She has a strong background in environmental pathology, histopathology, and reproductive toxicology. Since 2019, she has been the head of the Laboratory of Environmental Pathology at the School of Medicine, University of São Paulo, Brazil. Dr. Veras has published articles in high-impact peer-reviewed journals, including Nature Reviews Cancer, Nature Neurology, and Particle and Fiber Toxicology.
In addition to her research, Dr. Veras is actively involved in teaching at the University of São Paulo and has supervised numerous graduate students in their research projects.
She is leading the health component of the SargaSTREAM project, overseeing medical assessments conducted on workers affected by the decomposition of Sargassum and the consequent emission of H₂S.
