Jessie Yang
PhD Student, Sargassum Tracking and Monitoring.
Aircraft Center for Earth Studies- University of Miami
Jessie Yang received her Bachelor of Science degree in Oceanography from University of Washington, Seattle, in 2022. Her undergraduate research used statistical models to examine various factors influencing the growth rate of Alaria Marginata, a brown algae found along the West Coast. She also applied her interests in machine learning and computational modeling to study the marine environments and ecosystems in the context of climate change.
She is currently a Ph.D. student at the Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric, and Earth Science at University of Miami. Her researches focus on using airborne remote sensing techniques to monitor and predict sargassum landings. She also conducts workshops in other countries to help local communities develop necessary skills to independently monitor sargassum landings using drones.
