Afonso José Felício Peres Duran

Postdoctoral Researcher, Sargassum Construction Materials.
University of São Paulo

Postdoctoral researcher at the University of São Paulo (USP), focusing on the valorization of sargassum through its application as a raw material in the production of particleboards, promoting sustainability and circular economy in regions affected by recent sargassum influx events. Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of São Paulo (USP), with research dedicated to particleboard development, emphasizing the use of industrial and agro-industrial residues and life cycle assessment. Earned a Master’s degree in Materials Science and Engineering, conducting studies on the valorization of sargassum for particleboard production combined with agro-industrial residues. Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Biosystems Engineering, during which he participated in outreach activities focused on developing unconventional materials using agro-industrial residues.

Research member of the SargaSTREAM project, working on research lines related to the development of unconventional materials that use sargassum biomass as a raw material, with emphasis on sargassum valorization and alignment with sustainability and circular economy principles.
